Get A Motivation Boost From Nike

by Marelisa · View Comments

Nike motivationalHere are some fabulous quotes and videos from Nike to give your motivation a boost and inspire you to get up and get to it:

  • “The only one who can tell you ‘you can’t’ is you. And you don’t have to listen.” – Nike
  • “All your life you are told the things you cannot do. All your life they will say you’re not good enough or strong enough or talented enough; they will say you’re the wrong height or the wrong weight or the wrong type to play this or be this or achieve this. THEY WILL TELL YOU NO, a thousand times no, until all the no’s become meaningless. All your life they will tell you no, quite firmly and very quickly. AND YOU WILL TELL THEM YES.”
  • Awesome Nike video (if you’re reading this by email or in a reader, please click here to watch):

  • “Training is the opposite of hoping.”  – Nike
  • Barry Sanders (1992):

“Too often we are scared. Scared of what we might not be able to do. Scared of what people might think if we tried. We let our fears stand in the way of our hopes.

We say no when we want to say yes. We sit quietly when we want to scream. And we shout with the others, when we should keep our mouths shut. Why? After all, we do only go around once. There’s really no time to be afraid.

So stop. Try something you’ve never tried. Risk it. Enter a triathlon. Write a letter to the editor. Demand a raise. Call winners at the toughest court. Throw away your television. Bicycle across the United States. Try bobsledding. Try anything. Speak out against the designated hitter. Travel to a country where you don’t speak the language. Patent something. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. JUST DO IT.”

  • Michael Jordan – I succeed, because I fail (if you’re reading this by email or in a reader, please click here to watch):

  • “That’s right. I’m out of here. Do not chase me down or text me or try to talk me into going out to lunch. I don’t have time to figure out if I have time for a run. I’m just going. The world will not fall apart in my absence. I might miss somebody’s birthday cake or a discussion of last night’s season finale. Even if I do, who cares. I’m coming back with a state of mind three coffees, two flirtatious emails and a week of vacation can’t buy. Just do it.”
  • Lance Armstrong – Nike Commercial (if you’re reading this by email or in a reader, please click here to watch):

  • “Everything you need is already inside. Just do it.” — Bill Bowerman

Hi Sara: I jog three times a week and walk three times a week. Yesterday I was supposed to jog but I was tired since I didn't sleep very well the night before. I told myself that I was going to walk since I was tired; but then when I got out there I thought to myself: "Stop making excuses and start running". So I did end up jogging yesterday after all. :-) You have to continously tell yourself to just do it.
  • The quote that really hit me is "Training is the opposite of hoping." I've been going through a transition recently from always just planning and researching to actually doing. I also have a hard time finishing things and getting them "out there" because I always want everything to be perfect. I really like Nike's motto of "Just do it". It's so simple yet packs a thousand word meaning. Whenever I'm scared to move forward or don't know what to do or I'm sitting on my steps debating about whether to lace up my tennis shoes to go to the gym I tell myself, "Just do it" over and over until I'm out the door.

In a world where we are constantly being judged and failure waits around every corner those three little words can move mountains.

Hi Melissa: Like I say in a comment above, I don't use their tennis shoes, so this isn't an endorsement of their products. Whatever else they may do, they create very inspirational ads. And don't worry about raining on the parade: I welcome people expressing their opinions (of course, politely, like you've done). :-)

Hi Michelle: Nike is smart enough not to try to sell tennis shoes: they sell inspiration, motivation, and a go-get-them attitude.
  • I hate to get all political, but I'm not a fan of Nike due to their Michael Vick endorsement. I have a problem with any company that supports criminals who have abused animals and show no remorse for their wrongdoings. Sorry, Marelisa, to sort of rain on the parade, but I have a hard time taking tips from a corporation of Nike's (low) caliber.

However, keep your awesome posts coming. You know I LOVE your blog sister!

  • I don't know what it is about Nike and Gatorade specifically, but their best commercials have put me on the verge of tears. Especially when they have young athletes, and girls featured in their commercials. They're seriously amazingly inspirational, and probably the only companies who have commercials that give me such an emotional reaction.

Hi Suzen: It's amazing how much our self-talk impacts what we achieve in this life. I know Nike is trying to sell a product, but they do a brilliant job of inspiring people to get up and get going. I'm glad you enjoyed the quotes and videos. :-)

Hi Karl: You're absolutely right: it's about our action backing up our talk.

Hi Bamboo: Thank you. I landed on a quotes page that had lots of inspirational quotes on them and one of them was a Nike quote. I thought: "Nike has a lot of good quotes; I'm going to do a blog post on that." :-)
  • These are really great and inspirational quotes. What a clever idea for a blog post. Good stuff.
  • There is so much wisdom in advertising. Yes, Nike is trying to sell us something, but they are also trying to teach us something. I used to be all talk. I talked about this and that, but never did anything. Once I began to actually create I realized how much deeper I needed to go with my thoughts and actions to reach the goals that would help me make a difference in this world.

My favorite is, “Training is the opposite of hoping.”

Because when we are taking action on our beliefs than we are changing the world. What could be better than that?

  • Positively inspiring! You always ARE! These quotes and videos are simply a MUST to get off your butt and believe in yourself! I did a blog a while back "Banning The Can't" - same message, minus your great videos and quotes. My dad absolutely refused to ever let me use that word in our house. I did the same thing with raising my own kids. The negative talk we have with ourselves - well it's bad medicine!

Thanks for this positive vitamin pill for my morning!

Hi Mimi: I know what you mean. Around six in the afternoon I just start getting ready to go out for a run. I don't debate whether I should or not, think about it, or analyze it. I just do it. :-)
  • I started running seriously again this year. In the beginning it was tough. I had to find the motivation. I had to beat my inner lazy enemy. Now I don't have to fight. It has just become something I do :-)

Hi Dee: I'm very glad to hear that! It did take a while to find the quotes and videos I wanted to include, but it was fun. Nike has a lot of great ads.

Hi Tristan: I really liked that quote too. It's about acting within your sphere of influence instead of sitting there passively waiting for something to happen.

Hi Tom: It's about getting up every day and doing. :-)

Hi Vered: It is extremely powerful. I tend to live in my head, so making sure that I go jogging or go for a walk six days a week helps keep me grounded.
  • "Just do it" is extremely powerful. Thank you for the reminder.

It honors the sacred practice of practice. It's damn hard to wish your way to accomplishing anything. Thanks for the boost.

  • Hey Marelisa, nicely done here.

I really like the one, "Training is the opposite of hoping."

When you're hoping, you don't know if it's going to happen or not. You're waiting for an external force that's outside of your control to answer your prayers.

When you're training, and you train hard, you at least have an idea of if it's going to happen or not. You're not waiting for somebody else to answer your prayers, because you have most of the control yourself.

Thanks for sharing these with us!

For the time and hard work that when into this article. Great video's I liked Lance's the best. But just barely. This has inspired me to hold my head a little higher, reach a little father, and today I will walk with more confidence in my step. Today my life will be more abundant because of what you shared.

    sincerely

Hi Dani: Nike has some truly great sayings.

Hi Dawn: Change is difficult . . . I'm glad you found the courage to do what you feel is best for you.
  • I am going through a change right now. Something that, before, I would have not done because I was afraid. I'm scared...but I know that what I am doing will make me stronger and happier.

Thank you for posting this. It comes at the right time for me!
