Five Happiness Videos on YouTube

happiness

“Oh, to be alive in such an age when miracles are everywhere and every inch of common air throbs a tremendous prophecy of greater marvels yet to be.”

- Walt Whitman

Below you will find five YouTube Videos which will help remind you that we truly live in a wondrous time.

1. Louis CK on Conan: “Everything’s Amazing, Nobody’s Happy”

Louis C.K. is an Emmy Award-winning American stand-up comedian, writer, actor, producer and director. In this snippet of an interview he did on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” he has some interesting things to say on how we should be amazed by the technology that’s available to us today instead of complaining over every last tiny hitch.

One of the examples he uses are airplanes: he explains that instead of grumbling because the seat won’t go back as far as we want it too or the internet connection is momentarily out-of-service, everyone should exclaim throughout the entire flight: “OMG, I’M FLYING, I’M FLYING!” The video lasts for a little over four minutes and it’s helpful for adjusting your perspective when things aren’t going exactly your way.

This video can no longer be embed, so you have to watch on YouTube: “Everything’s Amazing and Nobody’s Happy.”

2. Louis Armstrong: “It’s a Wonderful Life”

This is a beautiful and uplifting video for when you need a pick-me-up (I found it over at Lance’s “The Jungle of Life”).

3. Rod Stewart: “Forever Young”

“May the good Lord be with you down every road you roam. And may sunshine and happiness surround you when you’re far from home . . . Be courageous and be brave, and in my heart you’ll always stay forever young.”

4. The Cuppy Cake Song

The singer here is 3-year old Amy Castle and this is just one of the cutest videos I’ve seen on YouTube.

5. Bob Marley: “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”

Although some have called the lyrics of this song “the philosophy of denial”, worry doesn’t do anyone any good. If you can do something about a negative situation, do it; if there’s nothing you can do, there’s no sense worrying about it.

Hi Arswino: I like that one too. I saw it on "Jungle of Life" and just had to put it on my blog :-)

Hi Liara: You're absolutely right, happiness evolves in many different forms. Have a great 2009!

Hi Chris: That was a great interview, and he's so right. Now when my computer is taking longer to respond than I want it to I think: "It's going to space, give it a minute" :-)
  • Love number one and five. This a perfect post for the coming new year!

  • You encourage people to remind themselves that happiness evolves in different forms, different places and perspectives. We each have a very personal sense of what this means and it is enriching to expand on that. Have a marvelous holiday season, however you choose to spend it!

Hi Laurie: We have come a long way. I still remember floppy disks :-)

Hi Kathy: It is interesting to stop and think of all the conveniences we have today and completely take for granted. I still have a VCR (as well as a DVD player) :-)

Hi Davina: I just love his voice! It's like warm caramel.

Hi Misty: I stopped by and checked it out. It's beautiful.

Hi Linda: I agree we need to find a way to be uplifted every day; like a rekindling of the flame.
  • Thanks for the videos. I can't tell you which one I liked the best. I guess they each hold a special place so there is not "best" . I believe we each need to be uplifted every day to stay on our own person mission.

When I first started to study engineering in college we actually used punch cards, computers took up an entire room and running a program took all night! Oh no, now I've gone and dated myself. My first cell phone was bigger than a toaster. Not really, but compared to today's models, it seemed that clunky.
I like to talk to my mom to get a good perspective of how much technology has changed our daily lives. I wonder how much it will change by the time my grandchildren come into the world?

Fun videos! I remember the hub talking about when he took a programming class in college and had to carry his box of punch cards. We've come a long way baby!

Hi Natural: I guess there are some songs that are timeless. The Rod Stewart song is one I listened to a long time ago but I had never paid attention to the lyrics, until now.

Hi MizFit: You know, more and more I'm learning to catch my mind when it's going down an unproductive train of thought and bringing it back to a more positive state. It's like training a puppy :-)

Hi Dutchschoolkid: "An audience of 600 people (or men if there were no women present)". Wow, I've never sung alone in front of an audience.

Hi Mimi: I don't have children but I love anything with kids in it as well. An award, thank you! :-)
  • By the way, I have given you an award on my blog. Check it out:http://mindfulmimi.blogspot.com/2008/12/my-blog-is-over-top.html
Feel free to ignore :-) or pass on.
Thanks for keeping me reading of the past months.
  • Nice selection here Marelisa. Since I am a mother, anything with kids or babies in it (funny, sad or cute) will bring tears to my eyes. So there... Rod Stewart did that here. And made me write a whole mooshy post over at my LIttle Men blog http://tweemannetjes.blogspot.com/2008/12/forev...).
I laughed on the Louis CK on Conan one. How true though. Most of the time when people complain and you point out the plain simple fact that life is good despite this little problem, they get it too. And those who don't, well, they can't be helped.
Have a great start into the new year.
    Mimi
  • I sung the last one, in front of an audience with 600 men. (How do you say that correct, an 600 heads counting audience?)
    And I can't even sing! :D

it's a great pick me up song.

forever young is another one. i remember when rod sung that song on stage with a little boy. it does make you feel happy. how can you not, it's music!

Hi Juliet: There's always something good on YouTube :-) Thank you for stopping by.

Hi Ulla: Glad you enjoyed the videos :-)

Hi Lance: When I saw the video of the little girl singing I thought to myself: "OK, now I need an excuse to put this on my blog" :-)

Hi Cath: I think we just take so many things for granted. For example, my printer broke down, but until I get it fixed if I really need something printed I can just e-mail it to my sister and then walk over to her apartment (7 minutes away on foot) and print it there. So it's really no big deal. I got your e-mail, I'll write back to you :-)

Hi Karl: We do need to be wowed. Blogs, wow!

Hi Mare - thank you. These are great resources. I love the idea of the first one. I use that technique to convince myself that I enjoy things I don't like and it works.

    Hi Mare,
Okay, I don't know how you can't help but feel uplifted after seeing any of these - they are all great. I have to say, though, as much as I loved them all, my favorite has to be the little girl singing - it is so, so cute. What a great way to start my day today Mare! I am competely happy right now! Really, today WILL be great - and it's because you've got me off on the right foot - with a smile in my heart!!
  • Thanks so much for those wonderful videos!
