Hi Ricardo: It's important to reflect on our lives, and most people don't take the time to do so. I also think it's OK if your answers change over time.

Hi Kim: I'm susceptible to picking up the moods of those around me too. What I do is I visualize a white egg-shaped light surrounding me and then I "create" a trellis around it and fill it with roses (with thorns). That helps me keep other people's negative energy out.

Hi Misty: I saw your post, thank you. I left a comment there.

Hi Giovanna: Thank you, I like number 98 too :-)
  • Awesome list of questions! I love it. My favorite is # 98!
It is fun reading all of them. You Rock!

  • #27 really got to me. I don't just let other peoples negativity affect me but all of their emotions. I seem to absorb the energy of those around me. I am constantly telling myself that I am not responsible for how other people feel.

I've noticed my daughter seems to absorb my moods as well. I wonder if it is something that children tend to do or if is a trait that she has picked up from me. It works great, though, when one of us is really happy. :-)

  • I ask myself a lot of these questions daily! Sometimes I find an answer. Sometimes I don't. Sometimes my answer changes (and I think that's ok). The important thing is that I take the time to ask myself and reflect on the question and answer. It gives me greater insight into who I am, and what I want to be. If I don't think about what I want and make things happen, life is gonna slip on by (and I really wouldn't be happy with that).

Hi Marie: Thank you for the award :-)

Hi Squawkfox: They are hard, aren't they? But I think the more you ask them the faster the answers will start to come.
  • Why are all these questions so hard to answer? :)

Hi Sara: Thank you, using these questions as inspiration for journaling is a great idea :-)

Hi Arswino: I'm glad these questions made you think, and it's my pleasure :-)

Hi Melissa: Hey, that's a great idea. Or for a journal like Sara pointed out :-)

Hi Cath: I've read more than my share of self improvement books. I really appreciate your encouragement Cath :-)
  • There's an award for you over at my blog - http://ofbooksandwriting.wordpress.com
  • Wow Mare - I've been reading through these questions and I know I'm going to have to print them out and take the time to answer them properly.

How do you come up with all this stuff? You should write a book - but not just an ebook. It would be so useful to have a lot of your posts in a paperback book.

  • Mare, great list and this is my first time I write a comment on your blog.
Many of the questions have not been thought by me before. Some of them made me contemplate. Some of them reminded me about what should I do.
    Thanks for sharing this, Mare.

Hi Carla: I think asking ourselves: "What do I want?" is key to living our best lives.

    Hi MindfulMimi: I think that's a great idea :-)

Hi Lori: I hadn't heard of that quote by Voltaire, I like it.

Hi Karl: The quality of the answers that you get is definitely determined by the quality of the questions that you ask.

Hi Bamboo: I would read "Awaken the Giant Within" first. Right now I'm listening to a video of Tony Robbins at his blog: http://tonyrobbinstraining.com/
  • Life is about the questions you ask yourself not the answers you receive. I had a hard time understanding this. I way always grasping for answers, but over these past couple years I realize it's the questions that steer your mind in the right direction and the answers will come when you are ready.

  • Great set of questions! Voltaire would approve. He said, "Judge others by their questions rather than by their answers."

  • I plan on giving Anthony Robbin's a read. Which of his books do you think is the most worthwhile?

This is a good reminder to the value of asking questions and its affect on the mind.

Hi Kathy: Thank you, and yes, personal development is a roller coaster of exhilaration and terror. Sometimes when you want more of something in your life you do get it but it comes in such an unexpected way and looks so different from what you thought it would look like that for awhile you can't recognize it.

Hi Elaine: Just by shifting our attention by an eighth of one millimeter we can get a completely different scene.

Hi Rebecca: I'm thinking of going through the list each night before going to sleep so my mind focuses on them while I sleep :-)

Hi Mark: Yeah, setting SMART goals and coming up with an individual time management system that works for you can be challenging :-)

Hi Chris: I think that at the end of the day that's the key to happiness: helping others.
  • I think 38 is the best. Whenever you start serving or looking outside yourself, that's when you grow and become fulfilled.

Hi Vered: I've actually started doing that: if I feel my mind going down a path I don't like I ask myself: What am I grateful for? It immediately shifts my mind to a more productive line of thought.

Hi Evelyn: Thank you, I'll take it :-)

Hi Kelly: Creative mojo jump start questions: that's a great use for this list Kelly.

    Hi Davina: That's a good one :-)

Hi Lance: We all have a tendency not to want to ask ourselves the difficult questions, but the questions that make us uneasy are usually the ones that point to areas where the things we've been keeping in our blind spot are hidden. There's a few of these that made me uneasy as I wrote them.
  • #60 and #80 are a constant challenge. hanks for this...nice list!
  • Wow! Great list. Certainly gives a person a lot to think about. It could take days to get through all those questions but a person could certainly learn some new things about themselves if they take the time to really think about and answer each question. Thanks for the insightful post!

  • Not only are you the Queen of Lists, your lists pulse with energy and opportunity like this one. This list includes almost every personal development topic out there. Lance makes a good point that sometimes the answers are uncertain, scary, or opposite what we want.

This list is definitely not for the timid. Personal growth requires us to strip away the superficial and examine our most private and inner being. Does anyone else find personal growth a roller coaster of exhilaration and terror?

  • Put me down with the others here - you rule at "lists" Mare! And that's a very cool thing! I love this list of questions, and yet at the same time - it makes me uneasy. Uneasy because some of the questions - well, I'm not sure what the answers will be, or if I'll necessarily like the answers... Or it some of these will make me re-think "me".... That's all good, although it still can be uneasy (especially if I'm honest with my answers).

  • I'm with Evelyn. Mares, you are indeed Queen of the Lists and this is possibly my favorite. I'm going to ask myself every single one in a free writing exercise. Maybe it'll help me get back my writing/creative mojo.

    Kelly :)
  • I have to declare you to be Queen of Lists. You're very good at compiling them!! These questions here are awesome in getting oneself better!!

My favorite: "what am I grateful for?" Seriously, we should ask this question every single day. Especially on bad days.
