Inspiration Sunday: Classical Music with Shining Eyes (July 27, 2008)

by Marelisa · View Comments

Benjamin Zander–Conductor of the Boston Philharmonic–will show you how to tap into your love for classical music. The video from Ted.com is about twenty minutes long, but it’s well worth watching: Classical Music with Shining Eyes.

“The best review I ever got was not from a music critic, but from my father. He was 94 years old at the time and completely blind. He attended a Master Class I gave in London and sat there in his wheelchair for about three hours. When it was over, I went to speak with him. He lifted up his finger in his characteristic way and said, “I see that you are actually a member of the healing profession.” It seemed to me the highest accolade.” — Benjamin Zander

I hope you enjoyed it!

Hi Marelisa,

Can you imagine how moved Benjamin must have been by his father’s words.

Mare -

Very inspiration. There is much for us to learn from the lives of others. I’ve stumbled.

I like classical music. Indeed, music can heal, on some level. It can be a very positive influence on ones spirit. It can raise our moods, and music should be used strategically. It’s a good asset.

Hi Mare – what a lovely story. I’ll be listening to that music later – when the kids have knocked off the TV

I used to listen to classical music a lot more in the past than I do today. I don’t know if it has died, but I still do enjoy it from time to time. Mostly when I’m in the mood.

@Barbara: I definitely agree that clasical music is healing.

@MizFit: Glad you liked it (the post and the catchphrase) :-)

@Shilpan: Aren’t the ted.com videos amazing? That’s one of the sites I visit when I need inspiration.

@Bamboo: Using music strategically, I like that.

@Cath: Yeah, kind of hard to listen to music with the television blaring in the background :-)

@Vered: I watched the video twice yesterday. I love how he measures success by how many shining eyes there are around him.

@Natural: There’s not much culture in Panama (sadly) so I listen to classical music every chance I get.

Great video. I wish I could have been part of the “TED choir” in the video. Heard it cost $3000 for a ticket though. Someday!

@Al: I guess it would be a different experience to actually be there but I don’t know, I kind of like watching the videos :-)
